Big looks with Oktoberfest jeans

This season, the big new thing is Oktoberfest jeans: denim shorts that have all the optical features of your average lederhosen – i.e. staghorn buttons, decorative stitching, and the classic front flap – but are simply not made of leather. This gives them many of the advantages of real leather breeches along with the comfort – and easy washability! – of jeans.

But how do you turn this innovation into a proper outfit that won’t have you being the laughing stock of the Oktoberfest?

Easy! We show you the big looks this season with Oktoberfest jeans.

If you’ve opted for “Trachten jeans” in dark brown, then you’ve got a pair that will look pretty much like normal lederhosen to the untrained eye. So why not just combine them with a classic Bavarian checked shirt and some sturdy boots? Especially if you’re a first-timer or just getting into the Oktoberfest, these jeans make a great way to try out wearing lederhosen without having to pay full whack; what is more, you won’t look at all out of place in a crowd and, if you do decide to go ahead and get some leather at some point in the future, then you can wear this shirt, these socks, and these boots with the real deal, too.

Given that they are substantially cheaper than true Bavarian leather breeches, Oktoberfest jeans are also a great way to experiment with colour. Not sure whether green lederhosen (yes, they’re out there…) are the thing for you? Try the jeans first. And while you’re at it, why not experiment with your colour palette anyway and try some trendy stuff like shirts with print? Or buy a couple of different jeans in different colours? That way, you can show how up-to-the-minute with the trends you are every day.

This is one for real Oktoberfest veterans. If you’ve already worn your lederhosen so often now that they’ve all but lost meaning, why not try this combination of Oktoberfest jeans and t-shirt for “everyday” excursions to the Wiesn so that your lederhosen gets a little less wear and becomes a little more special? Just wear it for the really big reservations (i.e. Friday evening in Schottenhamel) and enjoy other plus points – mainly your nonchalant, devil-may-care look. Yes, you’re cool and you know it.
