Oktoberfest 2014 Update June

At the end of next week, on 20th June, the Oktoberfest 2014 will be nothing more and nothing less than three months away – reason enough to let the pleasures of anticipation get the better of us for a moment and to take a look ahead to the Oktoberfest 2014.

2014 dates

For those who haven’t quite understood how it works yet: the Oktoberfest starts on the first Saturday after the 15th September and runs for at least 16 days – and a maximum of 18, when German unity day falls on a Monday.

This year, the 3rd October holiday is on the last Friday of the Oktoberfest, however, which will give us a fantastic (and long) last Wiesn-weekend, but won’t add any extra length onto the standard duration of 16 days.

“Servus Hippodrom, Grüßgott Marstall!”

Following his conviction for tax evasion, Hippodrom landlord Sepp Krätz has been forced to give up his usual spot on the Theresienwiese: his successor has now been named as Siegfried Abel, who will also be delighting us an equine concept – the Marstall. We’ve already reported on this in depth (and gave some strident comment while we were at it), but whatever the case, we are already looking forward to experiencing the newcomer among the 14 large-scale tents this time round.

What else is new?

Apart from that – and the obligatory annual poster design – it seems there will be little else of novelty at this year’s Oktoberfest. after last year’s exciting new beer pipe infrastructure was laid down in summer and the Oide Wiesn made a scorching come-back, the Oktoberfest 2014 is shaping up to be a relatively standard Oktoberfest without any major changes. Which is not such a bad thing at all, if you ask us…
