Oktoberfest costume deals

If you want real Bavarian gear to wear to the Oktoberfest rather than cheap fancy dress, you’re budget is going to need to be at least £150 if you’re a girl, or around £200  if you’re a guy. That might sound like a lot of money, but remember that you’re buying an entire outfit: for girls, that £150 should get you a basic three-piece dirndl and matching shoes; as a guy, you’ll be looking for a five-piece set of lederhosen, shirt, socks, boots, and an accessory.

What is more, your money is buying you an outfit that will last more than just one Oktoberfest. For you guys especially, your £200 is well invested, because a good pair of leather breeches is built to last a lifetime – and unlike a pair of trendy jeans, it never goes out style! Ladies too: you can vary your basic dirndl by buying new blouses and aprons, so the central piece will do you years of service.

stockerpoint_01We’ve had a look at all of the Oktoberfest costume deals out there and have some recommendations. First off, though, this is what you’re not looking for: cheap party gear. It’s fine if you’re on a drunken stag or hen do – it’s not something to be proud of though. Neither is this set of low-cost, low-cut “costume gear” . They must mean “costume” for a round of Bavarian porn films – and they even spelt the word “Fräulein” wrong. Jesus.

So if you’re looking for a costume deal that’s a bit more authentic, take our advice! If you want to take the risk of buying in Munich (our thoughts on this here), we can recommend the Wies’n Tracht & Mehr chain: there’s five or so in the centre of town and they’re a friendly bunch who’ll help you choose the right thing for you for a fair price.dirndl_01

If you’d rather order online in plenty of time (and we think this is the way to go), then in the UK, you’re only option for authentic gear delivered to your door at the right price is www.oktoberfest-dirndl-shop.co.uk. They’ve got some absolutely great deals and all of it is bone-fide Bavarian costume – not fancy dress!
